Belated Father's Day Dinner

We had a belated Father's Day dinner last Saturday as the week before we attended and celebrated Uncle Wim and Aunty's Pat Wedding Anniversary. Our venue this time is in Rawang.

Ordered the winter melon soup which cost RM25 which I found quite costly (they have other prices according to the size of the melon). Very tasty and will try making it at home one fine day. Other dishes we had were fried cabbage, fried spinach, claypot salted fish pork, claypot spare ribs with yam, signature steam fish and a whole smoked duck (RM50).

This is the smoked duck which I like very much due to its smokiness :) The meat is tough but you just need to chew on it slowly to enjoy and taste the smoke in it!

No other pics except for the foodie as I was real tired after the day's outing in MV. Not to mention the DSC started to act up which explained the fuzzy pics.

This was just a simple dinner for the Grandfather and Fathers that night.

Hot on the Trail of Transformers

Last Sat saw 3 of us hot on the trail of Transformers in Mid Valley Megamall. We were chasing after Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee.

Optimus Prime

Bumble Bee

Cavan waited one whole week for this and glad to say he's happy to have met them. In fact, he got overly excited and could not stop talking about Prime and Bee. Especially so on Prime coz he waved at him and Cavan said Prime is very friendly. Even acted the way they pose at home!
Cavan with Bumble Bee and Optimus Prime

Upon reaching MV, found out that their 1st appearance is at Metrojaya. Lucky for us, Metro did not have much crowd thus is was really easy to take pictures with both Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee. It was a different issue in Toy R Us tho and we were glad we went to Metro to try catching them instead of lingering at Toy R Us till the scheduled appearance time, which by then was packed with adults and children alike.
Prime and Bee transported on a trolley to the next venue

Nevertheless, children tend to be able to weave their way in a crowded place and Cavan again took pictures with Prime and Bee. He just couldnt get enough of them. 1st want to take pictures, 2nd want to shake hand, 3rd want to talk to them, 4th want to see them and the list goes on.
** I think both Prime and Bee can recognise us 3 all the way from Metro to Toy R Us!! ish-ish hahaha...

So excited was he that he got daddy to pose as Bumble Bee and himself as Optimus Prime (wearing his Ultraman masks) at home! hehehe...

Opa & Oma Anniversary

Uncle Wim and Aunty Pat bought us dinner at Eric's Deli in Plaza Hartamas on the occasion of their 28th wedding anniversary.

1st time we tried Eric's Deli 8 course menu which is not too bad except that they were quite poor in their service. First, it took ages to get their attention and second very slow response from them. Could be that their private rooms are located at the side thus no attention from them but this should not be the case as they should have sufficient staff to take care of those in private rooms.

Foodie - Eric's Special Four Combination, Braised Superior Shark's Fin Soup with Crab Meat, HK Style Crispy Roasted Duck, Braised Mushroom Stuffed in Minced Pork with Sea Cucumber, Steamed Live Sea Grouper in Oriental Style, Boiled Fresh Tiger Prawn, Imperial Fried Rice, Sago in Coconut Milk with Mango & Pamelo and Steamed Custard Cake with Salted Egg Yolk

In Cavan's words - the food very yummy, I like to eat it! And as usual he ate every dish except the Imperial Fried Rice. This boy just dont like rice very much *~*

Happy Joyeux Anniversary Uncle Wim and Aunty Pat.
Many more years to come! :)

Bird Park @ Ikano

Ikano had an indoor bird park for 2 weeks during the mid term school break. We took a family photo with the birds. Each of us had a bird on us, cool :)

Cavan's intrigued by the White Parrot and couldnt stop asking for a REAL white parrot! Since he can't get a real bird, he started to ask for log/branch to stand on, feathers to stick on himself and pretend to fly like the parrot, etc...

Day and night reminding me to get him these stuff. Even when I called home the first greeting he gives me is "mummy - remember to buy log, branches, feathers, etc..." Headache!!!

So finally I got him some branches off my mum's tree and printed out a parrot template for him to color in and made a parrot that can stand on the branch.

I loikee Krispy Kreme!!!

Finally Krispy Kreme @ Mid Valley open it doors on Thursday, June 18th.

Heard that the donuts here, the original glazed donut tastes much much better than Big Apple or JCO. Been eyeing Krispy Kreme wondering when it's gonna open since the outlet in Berjaya Times Square has opened.

Got my chance today. After work went and bought a dozen assorted donuts...

The original glazed no doubt is sweet but I like the texture. It's unlike the other two donuts shop which has a softer texture. This is a bit rough. The assorted flavours donut is not as good as the other two shops but I like it as it's not too sweet.

Nontheless, I will go for Krispy Kreme again :) but nothing will beat the traditional donut with sugar on it.. Traditional donut - anytime anywhere!!

Happy Father's Day!!

As with Mother's Day, Cavan's kindy held a Father's Day celebration today.

Kids and daddies were given chance to express their love to their kids, a short Q&A session. Then, the daddies were in for a surprised as all the kids watched them being choreograph to dance to the tune of Macarena by the teachers!!... Hahaha....all the daddies were so shy, not really moving their bums at all :p, a video of which I shall not post up lest I embarassed "someone" and get nagging for nothing hahahaha.....

Proceeded to Cavan's class and both of them made a keychain. Cavan then took daddy for a "tour" in his classroom. Class teacher Anita tried to get both fathers and sons/daughter's to dance joget in class. The gals danced but the boys, aiks...all just hold on to their daddy and Cavan is no difference :)

It was then time to say goodbye....

Happee 11th Bee-Day Nicolle!

7 June 2009 marks my niece Nicolle's 11th birthday. Wow, time really flies. This also meant that it has been 11 years since we move from Kepong Baru to Bukit Rahman Putra!

We had a simple celebration for her a day earlier. Nicolle wanted to have a big birthday bash but our house cannot accommodate everyone thus settled for just family and close friends. Menu consists of BBQ meats, pasta and salads.

Cavan like to follow her around. I still remember when Nicolle found out the gender when I was with Cavan. She was so angry that I'm not carrying a baby girl. However all things change when Cavan was born. Both of them are very close now. Nicolle is able to assist to take care of him in changing diaper, taking bath etc.. when Cavan was younger. She's very "motherly" :) Nowadays, you can hear them argue (yep, a 3+ year old boy arguing with a 11 year old!!) on days that both do not give in to each other.

Come next year, Nicolle will turn 12 years old. A step to teenage years and in the eyes of the law, an adult!

Happy Birthday Nicolle dearie...

Cherating ~ Chukai ~ KL Day 3

Birds chirping, seabreeze and swaying coconut trees...

Our itinerary today is simple. We had our breakfast then headed to the pool. Stayed there till 11ish before packing up and check-out.

As planned yesterday, we went to Chukai Restaurant Tong Juan for stuffed crab. Ordered fried rice (RM15), 2 pieces of stuffed crab (RM9) and loh hon chai (RM8). Found it quite expensive.

We bought lekor kukus (raw) which cost RM0.50 per piece and RM9 worth of satar (30 pieces) to bring back home on our way back. Instead of going back to Kuantan town, we decided to head straight back to KL since Cavan has already fallen asleep even before we were out of Chukai town. He actually slept throughout the whole journey right until my parents doorstep!!

The drive back was sceneryless as the road is very straight and long plus the weather is not helping. It's hot and glaring. After passing two R&R's, hubby stopped and wanted a nap before continuing. Instead of wasting time, I went and refresh myself and took over the wheels and drove right until we reached Karak Highway before hubby after his short nap feeling more refreshed now took over.

All in all, we had an enjoyable time in Cherating. A relaxing retreat from the Big City waking up to the sounds of birds chirping ~ blissful :)

Cherating ~ Chukai Day 2

Buzz-Buzz-Buzz. The alarm rang and we woke up to the sound of birds chirping and a bright sunny day ahead. Truly refresh from a good nights' sleep for everyone :)

Got ready and headed to Kedai Kopi for our breakfast.

A stroll in the hotel's ground and we headed out to the Turtle Sanctuary (next to Club Med). Saw big and small turtles swimming around in their pool. Hubby brought Cavan to the nesting ground while I stayed back in the car coz the heat is too much for me. Did not see any turtle eggs as it was buried in the sand. It was turtle landing season and to have a chance to see turtle lay eggs, one needs to standby at the beach from 9pm to 2am.

We continued our exploration and headed to Chukai, Kemaman (North of Impiana) to look for Restaurant Tong Juan said to be famous for it's stuffed crab and Hai Peng coffeeshop, famous for it's aromatic coffee and nasi dagang.

Coconut break by the roadside on the way to Chukai, Kemaman

Located Restaurant Tong Juan which is opposite the riverfront in Bandar Chukai. Decided that we will come and have our lunch here before heading back to KL the next day. Next up would be Hai Peng coffeeshop and we spotted the tall white building which is located at the busy corner of Jalan Sulaimani. Still full from our breakfast, we went and explored Pantai Teluk Mak Nik aka D'Monica Bay. Nothing much here except for stalls selling keropoks and lekor.

We bought 500g of keropok ikan tamban (RM9), 500g of keropok sotong (RM7), a bottle of keropok dip (RM3) and freshly fried lekor (RM2) all under the name of Cap Bubu. Besides keropok ikan tamban, there are other varieties like ikan parang available. There's so many small home industrial brand that you can find in Cherating and Kemaman. We also bought satar, 10 for RM3.

Went back to Hai Peng for a light lunch. The shop is crowded! In the middle there's a table for you to grab pre-packed nasi lemak, nasi dagang, meehoon, etc... We ordered 2 toasted kaya buns, 2 half boil eggs, 1 ice coffee, 1 lime twister and 1 choco lava if I remembered the name correctly. I tried their nasi dagang and did not find it to my taste. Hubby liked it though. The drinks are lovely. The ice coffee is very aromatic and comes in a plastic cup that are sealed on top. Very hygenic. The lime twister is a good way to cool down and you'll see mint flakes in it which Cavan enjoyed. The choco lava that I had came with a scoop of chocolate ice cream and whip cream on top. Nice and drinking it alone made me full.

Back to the hotel, nap awhile and explored the other wing of the hotel's ground where we spotted a very friendly goat and a small kampung house for the kids to play that has a swing hanging from a tree beside it before heading to the beach and pool again.

This time we stayed quite long by the beach building so called "sand castle", catching tiny hermit crabs? and basically just enjoying the seabreeze. This round Cavan had his swimming ring with him and thoroughly enjoyed going from the adult pool to the children pool and back to the adult pool.

7pm by the time daddy and Cavan got out from the pool. Back to our room, wash up and headed out to Chukai again for our dinner of Ikan Bakar (earlier in the day, we spotted rows of Ikan Bakar behind a Bus Station before turning into Pantai Mak Nik).

We ordered a Ikan Tamban (RM20) and a squid (RM13.50) to be cooked "bakar" style and a plate of fried kailan with salted fish. Total bill came up to RM46 with rice and 2 drinks. Food is okay, not bad but the service is poor, really poor. Cant handle crowd of more than 3 tables is all I could say. Imagine finishing your plate of rice with only the ikan tamban and squid served. The vege and drinks? Nowhere to be seen and it took ages to get their attention before finally our plate of vege and drinks arrived.

Almost 10pm by the time we've done with our dinner. Cavan wanted to have more satar thus we drove back to the stall where we bought earlier but it was closed. He then requested for satay but on the way he fell asleep and we just headed back to the hotel knowing that he's really tired and would not have any supper later.

These are the activities for Day 2. One more day to go before heading back to the big city.

Kuantan ~ Cherating Day 1

School's out and we went to the East Cost for a break.

We started our journey around 10am on a beautiful Saturday morning. The weather was nice throughout the whole day. The road heading to East Coast was really really long and straight! Did not dare to speed as we know there's bound to be speed trap along the way and we were right as we spotted the police officer sitting and zooming his camera at the cars.

We arrived Kuantan town and headed straight to Teluk Cempedak for lunch. We scouted for Restaurant Hoi Yin which is said to serve the best curry mee. My verdict, it's just so-so, normal bowl of curry mee. 2 bowls + 2 drinks = RM9.60.

Proceeded to walk around the beach. Did not stay long as Cavan kept asking for his stuff to start playing by the beach. Seeing sand to him it's like seeing gold! There's a lure of the sand asking him to come come sit and play... hahaha..

Since we still need some travelling time to get to our hotel, we left Kuantan town and headed to Cherating. By the time we check into Impiana, it's almost 3.30pm. Unloaded our stuff and rested. We headed to the beach with pail, digger, spade, etc.. and a boy who's practically jumping up and down in his happiness and eagerness to hit the beach and water.
Next up was the swimming pool after cleaning oneself from all the sand. As we did not bring out Cavan's swimming ring, the stay in the pool was not long. Good as well coz we planned to drive out early to check out dinner locations.

We went to Pantai Cherating (6-7 km South from our Hotel) and spotted only one decent Restaurant, Restaurant Duyong which to us looks cut throatting. No other choices, we continued our journey South and spotted Restaurant Peninsula (right beside Legend Cherating) and Golden Beach Restaurant (opposite Restaurant Peninsula). From reviews we read before, Restaurant Peninsula serves chinese and western food while Golden Beach serves steamboat and seafood. Golden Beach was closed that day thus we settled for Restaurant Peninsula. Me and hubby actually ate here before when we stayed in Legend Cherating about 6 years ago.

Our dinner comprises of sizzling taufu, beansprout with salted fish, fried chicken ala India and stir fried garlic lala. Together with our drinks - 1 coconut, 1 lime juice and a pack prawn cracker, total came up to RM36. Crowd started to trickle in, all KL cars. Guess not much restaurant choice to choose from thus most ended up in the same place :)

On our way back to the hotel, we packed 10 sticks of chicken satay (RM4). Not bad. Even Cavan had 4 sticks of it!

By 10pm all three of us are already in dreamland....zzzzzzz.....
