We went to Malacca for a day trip.

The day did not start out real good as hubby missed the turn off into Ayer Keroh and we headed straight to Jasin to make a really long U-turn!

OK nevermind bout this, we just "makan angin"...then back on track heading into the tol booth was already jam packed. Still alright, it's long weekend with Public Holiday the next day. After parking our car and waiting or "hunting" for my aunt's car which missed the turn off into the car park (alright another long story cut short ~ due to the jam, mother walked and locate them to bring them back to the parking lot! hahaha...) Oh yah, mother got Malacca roots so quite familiar with the roads there...

Headed for lunch. I wanted to try the famous Chicken Rice Balls but oh my, look at the que with umbrella somemore!! (each time I'm in Malacca for one reason or another I never get to try this!!)

Forget about it. We just headed for a restaurant nearby and had nyonya food.

After lunch, we headed to Jonker Walk and walked a bit. Then, it's time to head to my relative's home in Ujong Pasir. Goodness, it took us a few rounds before getting on the right track and about 1.5 hours to get out of the traffic madness in Jonker's Street!!! First time I'm in such a terrible jam in Malacca.

All in, did not get to see much of Malacca. Did not get to eat what I wanted but managed to get my childhood fav candy, the Tok-Tok candy and Nyonya Chang :) Most of the time was wasted on the road throughout the day. Never will I go into Malacca again on such long holidays!

Darniest Line and Getting More "Small Gas"

This is about Cavan.

1st scenario ~ the darniest line!!

Friends were over at our home for a Christmas Pot Luck. Justin jokingly asked Cavan to call him "Kai Yeh" and Cavan's response was : You got money or not??

Gosh, all of us were stunned!!!! Luckily this boy answered straight away, if not everyone thinks we taught him to ask that question. Cavan dont know what's the meaning of "kai yeh". We usually use this phrase (You got money or not?) on Cavan when he request us (parents) to buy him stuff when we're out shopping.....

What an "appropriate" response from him huh.... I call you Kai Yeh got terms one....hahahaha...
*Kai Yeh = god father

2nd scenario ~ being "small gas"

I saw Cavan taking out his pillow, bloster and blanket and asked him where he's going. He replied me, going to Poh Poh's room. Oh well, nothing unusual since sometimes he goes over to my mum's room and sleep.

Little did I know there's a story behind it when my mum told me later. He went to my mum's room with his stuff and my mum asked him "Why you bring your stuff over?" Cavan's reply : I'm angry with daddy coz he said I turn on the volume of the radio too loud!!

OMG!! this little kiddo got upset with his dad just because his dad asked him to lower down the volume of the radio! and he retaliate by taking his stuff in protest to show that he's not gonna sleep in the same room as his dad!

Really must be careful with this kid. Imagine what he'll do when he's all grown up.... I dare not think about it!

Christmas McD's Nite

Another group of friends came over to our house on December 26th for a pot luck. I only prepared potato salad as we were all not sure what to have for dinner. Fast food is definite but "what" is the question. All was impromptu thus I left it to them to settle the main food for our dinner on their way over.

Boy, did I waited long for my dinner. The group only arrived at 9.30pm++ when our set time was 8.00pm!!... Only by 10.oopm did we all tuck into our dinner. I was energy-less by that time...

Although late dinner or should I say supper, we all had a blast! Adults yaking away while the kids played away...

Again after everyone left, it's house cleaning time and by the time I got to bed it's already 2am...

Christmas Pot Luck @ Home

Besides our birthday gathering, "Senior Citizen" also arranged other get togethers such as Mooncake Festival and simple farewell to one of our Senior Citizen member who flew to Indonesia to work. Thus this Christmas instead of having our get together outside, we planned to have it done at home coz "it feels more like Christmas" according to one of our Senior Citizen, Mr Justin.

1st hurdle was the dates! Really difficult to find a good date for everyone and at last we settled for December 23rd. Since most of us are working on this day, we agreed on a Christmas Pot Luck. Menu include tapau-ing KFC, Pizza and Satay. Home made would be Christmas Cake (fruit cake), potato and garden salad. Dessert is fruits, all sorts!

2nd was the gift exchange. The requirement set is to get something that is non-edible, something that can be cheerish and remembered. The gift must also be suitable for both genders as we do not know who will be getting the gift until we pick the lucky number that night.

We started off on time and everyone had a great time with two kiddos entertaining us. Gift exchange was fun as we tear open our gift and find our surprise. In fact, all the gifts are not bad at all....

After everyone headed home, it was clean-up as usual for me before knocking off for the day. Merry Christmas everyone and hope more gathering of such will take place next year!

Origin of the 12 days of Christmas

Christmas is just 2 days away and I got this from my dad thru email. Interesting to know what does the 12 days of Christmas meant!

Origin of the Twelve Days of Christmas
From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.

It has two levels of meaning, the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of theirchurch. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.

One true love refers to God

Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.

Three French hens stood for Faith, Hope and Charity, the Theological Virtues

The four calling birds were the Four Gospels and/orthe Four Evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, first Five Books of the Old Testament, the"Pentateuch", which gives the history of man's fall from grace.

The six geese a-laying stood for the the six days of creation.

Seven swans a-swimming represented the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, the seven sacraments: Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.

Nine ladies dancing were the nine Fruits of the HolySpirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control.

The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments.

The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful apostles.

The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelvepoints of doctrine the Apostle's Creed.

Now, do you find this an even more interesting Christmas Carol?

Winter Solstice

This year's Winter Solstice was spend at home. No gathering this year due to the recent demise of my 3rd aunt.

I only made the "tong yuen". This is also from the frozen pre-pack "tong yuen". Early morning, I boiled the pandan leaves, ginger slices and sugar for the syrup. When we're ready to eat the "tong yuen", I prepared another pot of boiling water. No defrost is required. When the water is boiling just add the "tong yuen" and once you see those balls floating up, scoop them up into a bowl and add the ginger sugar syrup and it's ready to be eaten!!

Happy Winter Solstice everyone! This is said to be a bigger occassion than Chinese New Year!!

Happee Burfday Dad!!

Celebrated my dad's 67th birthday at Yin Her Restaurant, Sg. Buloh New Village.

Happy Birthday Daddy and wish you pinkest of health!!!

Golds (bones) picking

I went with my parents, other aunties and uncle to the crematorium to bring my 3rd aunt's bones to Nilai for the last burial site.

My 1st time picking golds (bones) actually. Interesting as those bones that are of pure white means you are well not sick. Whereas bones that you can see that has ant's nest likeness are those where the illness attacked. There's a piece of bone that I saw which is pinkish in colour. According to the undertaker, it was the medication that my aunt took.

They dont call it picking bones but picking golds. Am still not used to Sam Yee being not around, wonder what she's doing now? Met up with my grandmother, grandfather, 2nd aunt, 6th aunt and uncle??

Guess it's not only me but my family members as well to get used to her not being around anymore....

Au Revoir Aunty Chris

Now is 3.00am and I just came back from Selayang Hospital.

My 3rd aunt passed away at 12.20am today. My whole family visited her earlier in the day and she was doing fine albeit very weak. In fact, she sat up by herself and spoke to us very briefly asking what time it was and that she dont understand why she is in her current situation. At times, she's confuse and seem not to recognise anyone but at times she speak sense as well. The doctor even advised us of her condition and we do understand having lost 2 family members due to the same illness but different causes. The shock is that I didnt expect it to be today!!

I'm sad that no one was beside her before she go but glad that she did not suffer much during those last moments and glad for her as well that she will not suffer anymore after battling the illness which started to turn really bad for the last 3-4 months.

We saw her before the doctor came to formally announce the death and to start the required paperwork procedure. We even accompanied the body to the Forensic Department before we left home.

We will miss you dearly Sam Yee, au revoir...

Mumm Mumm Mumm @ Jogoya

After two dates postponement, we finally agreed and settled with 8 December 2008 as the day to gather yet again to celebrate our "youngest" senior citizen member, Ms Loo Kah Lai's birthday. Youngest in the sense that her month of birth is the "youngest" amongst us all but not in age. Mr Ng Yew Giap or better known as Old Giap is still the youngest in terms of age!

Ooh not forgetting that Old Giap actually organised this round's gathering, youngest organising for the youngest... and this organiser actually made us all went head spinning as to when is the actual date to meet!! To cut the long story short, on actual day most of us are still wondering whether the gathering is on or not! You go figure what happened in between the planning! hehehe...

The venue is again another buffet dinner as birthday girl promoted strongly about this venue months before but this time in a high class area ~ Jogoya @ Starhill.

Picture paints a thousand words.....

We had fun with these metal clips and VIP slips.

Birthday girl had Jogoya's VIP card which entitles us to eat VIP dishes. The whole group of us kept targetting at this

and this

Although liquor is served, we consumed more coconut than an ordinary day. I think on av
erage, each of us had 3 coconuts each!

The night ended with us all carrying a tummy load full of food that will take some time to digest. On our way out of Starhill, Ning Baizura serenaded us with lovely songs.

Fab Time @ Nuffnang Frisco Family Day Out

TODAY is the day. The day of Nuffnang Frisco Family Day Out @ KizSports & Gym, One Utama.

Our day started with waking up Cavan with the playhouse disney "Wakey Wakey Up Cavan, playhouse disney..." song.

Got ready and headed to One Utama. Upon registration, Cavan were given a t-shirt to change into. Snap picture at the entrance and step foot into KizSports. From there onwards, we lost track of time!

Kids were running all over the place enjoying the facilities. It was a tough time getting everyone together and hearing the announcements. Kids were divided by coloured sticker for various activites which includes chicken dance, limbo, etc..

kiddos doing the chicken dance

Parents were not left out as there were talks on Nutrition and Parenting but alas I was not able to sit through the whole session as Cavan wanted to go here and there and wanted to find food coz he was hungry!! (after taking breakfast not too long ago??!!) Not to mention that I was there alone with him as hubby had to conduct a training session before joining us later.... so there goes the talk and cam-whoring that I intented.

Parent blogger Chan Lilian

Quite tiring going after a 3 year old who wants to play but then hesitate, has 2nd thought changed his mind, and continued to walk here and there dunno what he wants to do hahahaha.... So what I did, I lured him to the colouring contest. No intention of winning but to get him to sit still at least for a mere 15 minutes (hopefully) so that his tired mummy's leg can rest! :p

He coloured a bit with of course mummy's help and then his eyes started to roam again and said let's go out to the play area... You see there were a lot of activities and he's just so curious to absorb it all!... So out to the play area we go again....

By this time hubby called and inform he's on his way.

Lunch is served for the kiddos and parents at different area. Took Cavan to the Snack Area and from his look, can see that he enjoyed his lunch thoroughly. Oh yeah, there were free flow of Dutch Lady's Iced Latte, my favourite!! :)

After lunch, we were entertained by Mr Banana the magician. Everyone enjoyed the show tremendously especially the kids. This was followed by prize giving ceremony and last but not least the grand prize winner to a fully sponsored 3D2N Trip to Disneyland Hong Kong.

getting ready for the magic show to start and Cavan with yours truly

Mr Banana the magician

Although we did not win anything, we had a great time there and by the end of agenda, Cavan is dropping off to dreamland already...

Before we leave, we were given goody bag and no prize for guessing what's in it!
Thank you to Nuffnang and Dutch Lady for this great day out!

Pain & hole in my pocket!

I hate going to the dentist! Can still remember during childhood that I will start to cry a day before the dentist appointment and the crying will continue right when I'm seated on the chair and the dentist is checking my teeth out!!

Hiks! Now I can't cry but to put on a brave face.... so yesterday after bearing with some discomfort pain over the last few days, I went to the dentist. My suspicion is confirmed, it is my wisdom tooth that is giving me problem.

1st "advice" from the dentist, the wisdom tooth need to be pulled out! Aarrgghhh... surely there'll be some other way? Right!, the only way now is to do a minor surgery where she will cut my gums that is covering the wisdom tooth and clean the whole area. Go back home and finish up the antibiotic and pray that the tooth won't give me anymore problem. If problem persists, no other way but to extract it out!

Of course I opted for the 2nd "advice". All in all, I was only on the dentist chair for a mere 10 minutes for the whole procedure and this cost me a whooping RM225! I've even enquired if to extract the whole tooth out? - it'll cost RM500!! OMG!!!

I've now paid for the procedure and is still suffering from swell, pain and discomfort!! This is worse than giving birth!!

Gastroenteritis - what a mouthful!!

Today is Cavan's actual birthday. We celebrated his birthday earlier with in-laws and even had a BBQ birthday for him last Saturday.

Our plan was to surprised him with a small cake for him to blow the candles today, his actual birthdate. However all plans went awry when he woke up this morning at around 6am and told me that he's not feeling well, that he wanted to throw up. At the same time he also said his tummy is painful.

After his bottle of milk, indeed he did throw up and it did not stop after two rounds but continued!!! I got no choice but to leave him at home with my mum and niece and went to work to handle some stuff as my colleague is on leave. By the time I reached home lunch time, he's been throwing up non-stop each time after consuming water. The usual cheeky, talkative toddler is now just sitting down moody, gloomy and quiet.

Called his paed (Dr. Musa) but found out that he's on emergency leave and was referred to another paed. Upon consultation with her (Dr. Soh), we were advised to admit him for drip as he seems to be suffering from Acute Gastroenteritis and at the same time, his temperature has started to rise.

I'm more calm this time unlike previous. I'm also proud of Cavan as today he did not even whimper when the paed was inserting the drip needle and wrapped his hand to give him his special hand. I still remember clearly early last year where it took 4-5 person to hold him down for this simple procedure!! He really is a big boy now :)

Cavan's "special hand"

Surprisingly, he started to be talkative after the simple procedure when he returned to his ward. He kept up this momentum till he drifted off to sleep. Although his food intake is close to NIL (he only ate a bit of carrot which he threw up with all the water he took later), the drip will help him through this night.

settling into his hospital bed

dinner is served, however Cavan only managed to eat some carrots

Before bedtime, my parents bought 2 slices of cake and we sang him the Birthday Song. This would be another interesting chapter of his life where he celebrated his 3rd birthday in the hospital of all places!!!

Thank you Kong-Kong and Poh-poh for sponsoring Cavan's cake

That's Cavan on his 3rd birthday @ Damansara Specialist Hospital Ward #285

BBQ Birthday for Cavan

We had an early birthday celebration for Cavan on 15 November 2008. From morning till early evening it was raining. Good also as we'll be having BBQ that night and the weather was perfect as it stopped raining late evening just in time for us to set the fire and start our BBQ!

Besides family members, we only invited my parents childhood friend, parents neighbour and Cavan's god-ma.

Even the cake for Cavan is kept simple with just "Bob the Builder" face drawn on a Pistachio mousse cake. He wanted both Bob the Builder and Thomas and Friends for his cake but we did not intent to order cake above 1kg thus settled for Bob the Builder.

Needless to say, this little boy enjoyed himself thoroughly. Even caught him "socialising" with the aunties at one point. He can hold up a conversation by himself!!

Boy oh boy, he has really grown up a lot and the best part was while we're cam-whoring him with his birthday cake, he loudly shouted "Ah Kim, Ah Gu come and take picture!!". He was calling for my sis-inlaw and brother to come out of the house and take picture with him coz everyone else already had their turn!! Cheeky huh....

Happy Birthday My Boy!!

Frisco Brings My Family Out

Another chance to win goodies from Nuffnang/Frisco...why give it a miss right? as we never know when the lucky star is upon us :) Here goes!

Why Family Day is important for children. Let me first answer that Family Day is important not only to children but the whole family as well.

To me, Family Day is the day where everyone in the family can gather together and spend time with each other. In other words, we're stuck with each other la hahahaha.... Ok, seriously it's a great time for bonding and sharing.

Family can be your own family ie. mother, father and child(s) or you can even pull in your WHOLE family as in besides your own own family, your family as in your parents (in-law inclusive), brother, sister, cousin, etc... Am I getting you confuse already with the word FAMILY?? :p

Alright back to the original question, Family Day is important for children as it is a chance for the whole family to bond together, play together, eat together and most importantly after all this Family Day get-together, children feels LURVE!! and a sense of belonging. Let's not also missed how the other adults feel. I may generally put is as the adults will feel like a kid again especially when you play with your child. It is important to SEE and FEEL from a child's perpective!

Last but not least, at the end of the day, you can see your child's happiness coming out from within.... that sparkly smile in his/her eyes :D

Here is a happy BIG FAMILY photo of where we had a picnic.
see all that happy smiley faces??

and this, a happy family shot!

If indeed I do win the grand prize (ppsst.... I don't mind if I get the 32" SONY LCD!!!), I would love that all my family members go on this lovely vacation!! However, since FRISCO is fully sponsoring for only 2 adults and 2 children, my other lovely family members hear ye hear ye, wanna join, please sponsor yourself!! :p
